Reviews:

Porco Rosso (1992)

I feel very disatified with this movie. The concept was great but the way it resolved left me wishing they treated it more seriously. The concept of a man turned into a pig from his survivor's guilt is brilliant. He isolates himself from the woman he (presumably) loves and society as a whole on his small private island. He doesn't accept any suggestion that it might have been just luck, instead he lives in shame constantly smoking and drinking. As I said, fantastic and sort of realistic scenario, but ending seemed to be lacking another half an hour to properly tie his story together.

I mean, I'm mostly talking about the Fio's kiss. Sure it was foreshadowed, but in my opinion it shouldn't have happened in the first place, due to their age gap :/. For the whole movie I was hoping those innuendos regarding Porco's interest in her will not turn into real situations. Their relationship in my mind is more of an uncle and a niece. Based on a final scene I assume he did end up with Gina, because she wasn't waiting for him anymore, so he must have finally visited her after turning back to human form (again, these are my assumptions), which happend, kind of unreasonably. It takes a lot to work out your trauma and Fio's kiss didn't seem like it enough impact to cause the transformation. I guess her role was to rebound him with people again, but it still stinks "groomer-y" to me. When other characters were sexualizing her it was showed as a negative thing. So was it negative because it was done by a terrible person and not the act itself? Lowkey sucks.

Besides that, I very much liked the feminisim this film prevented. 1920s and 30s were indeed quite progressive times.

The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)

Fantastic Mr. Fox is one of my favorite movies thanks to its magical animation and this vibe that makes me experience deja vu and feel nostalgic for time and place I have never been to before. When I told that to my friend who is much more cinephile than I am they immediately suggest me to watch more Wes Anderson's movies because they have similar "animation-like" feeling. I struggle with enjoyment and focus while watching non-animated movies. I want to change that so I knew that I had to check them out. My friend recommened "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and holy fuck that it was great.

I get it. The colorful pallete, the dynamic shots and fast pacing are more often appearing in children's movies I assume to suit their young quick brains. I noticed that "adult" movies have more slower pacing, slower conversation and duller colours, probably because how our perception of time changes as we age. From my perspective watching movies as a kid felt like life-altering voyage, whole meal to consume endlessly. Now after movie I feel like just a quick lunch at work. Maybe so many Netflix shows now consist of multiple 1-hour long episodes for adults to experience that excursion again? Nevertheless The Grand Budapest Hotel managed to take those fragments of children movies and fully use their potential to bring that feeling again in just 100 minutes. Story is packed and quick like a rollercoster, in a good way, I had to issues with keeping up as a viewer.

In comparison with "fantastic Mr. Fox" those movies seem to be oppisited of each other. "Fantastic Mr. Fox" is a children's movie with earnest and maturity, while "The Grand Budapest Hotel is movie for adults but with dose of childlishness and unseriousness. What is the difference with maturity and childlishness anyway? Does what we consume and enjoy has to say who we are? Idk ppl like to judge each other to feel usuperior ig.

Also the frame sizing captured my interest and its corelation to storytelling. This movie feels aware of the listener. Or it is created in a way that I am supposed to be there. Actually I didn't expect that the movie is entirely taking part in a flashback. At the end I even forgot where we were and expected that is was a beggining of the film, as if it was a movie inside of a movie. When the frame was coming back to full width I felt like I was being pulled from a day-dream back to reality. Other "adult" movies seem like they are existing by itself. The audiance is just a byproduct of the producition. Characters live in this Matrix unaware of us hoping for better, while we already know what their future brings. Here through main character's retelling of his life, is adjusted to the existance of the viewer and in my opinion does not exist by itself, only to be tied to the point of view of certain person.
I think I got to fixated on the concepts and alleged messaging rather than the actual story. Now I need to watch the whole filmography of Wes Anderson.

Niebezpieczni Dżentelmeni (2022)

Bananowe naplety naprute jak messerchmidt po domowce musza sobie przypomniec wszystkie perypetie ostatniego wieczoru. Zycie marzenie

My image of Witkacy is now permanently set, based on his portrayal in this movie and there's no coming back. This chaotic evil goblin will now be my my personality for the next month, but unfortunately I think no matter how much I try to become someone else, still I'm closely similar to Bronisław Malinowski, rather than that imp. Bleh,, worth a shot tho. Few of my friends have summer houses in polish mountains so I get the experience, nobody died there yet tho.
For a movie made in these times the light is fantastic! It felt so good to be able to see characters faces in shadowed places. The director is working on adaptation of the novel "Lalka", so I'm having high hopes for this production. Even Witkacy's actor will be starred and Stanisław Wokulski (main character of the novel). Hahahh I love that I'm pulling strangers into Polish culture.
Undoubtedly, Poland has always been a country of substance abusers who shoot themselves in the foot at any chance of improving their nation. And on top of that, our sense of community is made out of that lack of community, which is so widely present in modern capitalistic cult of individuality :DDD Stupid fucking Poles who are destroying their country as if we didn't have our independence for less time, that we didn't exist. And apparently polish healthcare system has always been near the extinction. I think poles just like to suffer.

Bad Guys 2 (2025)

It's a shame that this movie's message was "Respect is earned, not given", while it's literaly said in the first movie that Bad guys have been ostracized since the beginning of their lives, because of the scary appearances (like Wolf and all the stories about "The Big Bad Wolf").
The same happened to Kitty, whose teacher favoured her peers over Kitty, making her feel insecure and powerless. Later in life, she really internalized that to the point of becoming a full-time theif as a form of vengeance. She had some points, but her feelings of injustice were written immaturely or even purposely pictured so unreasonably. People that are mistreated by society deserve to rebel from it, but desiring to race for the power is still participating in a flawed system. It is a mistake Kitty should have learnt in this movie and show the world her power differently.
But it's rumored that there will be Bad guys 3, so maybe there we will see Kittys "redemption arc". I still love her tho, her battle with Diane was so toxic yuri ;3
Talking about hot characters in BG2, Doom was SOOO gorgeous!! I'm all for siding Snake, because indeed evil women and their heart-wreching schemes are top tier romantic. I support women's rights and women's wrongs, let her have hobbies.
Aside the plot the animation.. It is so stunning and joyful. Just like in the first movie, here, you could see the creative freedom and fun in the work. My favorite scenes where with occasional 2D moments and absolutely fabulous paintings during moments in space. Those backgrounds were *chefs kiss*

Sinner (2025)

Oh the beauty of music that connects communities throughout the generations. Allowing people for a glimpse of time to forget of the harsh reality.

Mars Express (2023)

Watched it today, through cinema cafe in my city. It's a nice place for cultural and artistic growth. I wish I had been there earlier(I've planned, but I also have been forgetting that that place exist tbh). I really wanted to watch it back it 2023, but it wasn't screened in my city so my only option was to watch it online, but I don't have attention span for that. Thats why I prefer cinemas, I can fully concetrate on the story, so I'm glad this independed cinema cafe exist.
So starting the actual review I want to say that the final act was so disappointing. Felt rushed and lacked that another half an hour to conclude the storyline profoundly. Maybe it was on purpose, but the ending looked like a burnt bridge, as if all that characters tried to achieve got cut and trashed. Roberta's ending is also foggy.. what happened to her after she got caught hacking? What was she doing in her last scene? (there might have been LEM somewhere in the crowd of robots, if so then i missed him)
Also the act of creating robots after death of a person has been left unclear and I wish it was explored more in Carlos' side story. I was wondering what way it will be led, still an abuser or a new person? Again how does this copying work, especialy when his body wasn't found? I hoped there would be an existencial debate regardung ship of theseus.
Despite my negative aftertaste of this movie I resonate with one aspect of it, which is opinion that people will harm another being if they believe they consider others below them(especially in sexual context). This problem is very common lately and it scares me. It scares me how some people easliy can harm others with less power, or due to differences.

Perfect Blue (1997)

What I liked about this movie, is a slightly different ending than what DID in movies leads to. It feels repetetive to watch how main character turns out to be the one behind the murder or causing more harm when they become their "evil self". Here, at least it was the sister and not Mima Kirigoe(and she's so cool at the end Agh!! I even blushed).
Besides that, this movie does a great job at portraying "strong and independent woman" archetype. It shows the expectations women are pressured to bear and how in patriarchal society women are faced with disapproval, by not mirroring image of them others have in their minds. And how stepping out of this bubble can put women in danger, due to misoginistic desire to control women who are just sparkly trinkets to enjoy in a man-centered world. How SA and nudity is served to cause shock in the audiance overwhelmed with how "confident" that woman is, when their views are still coming of place of men in the center of the world. How woman's relationship with sex always has to be loud and give her "the empowerment".

AKIRA (1988)

It really is curlding my blood to see how people from the past imagined future. Currently, the world looks like it had gone back in progress and NeoTokyo still feels so futuristic, even though it's set in 2019. Also, the fact the olympics 2020 were supposed to happen in Japan? I wonder how the organization went through. Im very curious whether is was an intentional reference or just coincidence(but the popularity Akira had back in 1988 might actualy inspire at least someone who suggested Tokyo for 2020 Olympics.
But back to the story, actualy I don't think I liked the story in particular(or I just didn't understand it? I dunno.). It felt like it was missing something.. a little spark or some bugbare in the plot. That's why I'm giving this movie 4/5. Alongside the story, there is magical animation and extraordinary soundtrack. I had this priviledge to watch it in cinema(even twice! in 4K!!), and the singing and the sighing basicly hypnotized me. I felt like i was spiritualy ascending. But the biggest spiritual ascend was due to this magnificent cell animation. As an artist it felt like watching jesus walk on water. I even teared a bit. Looking back at the time, animation had to be so precise and so perfect. Art really is magic, just like Kamome Shirahama(Witch Hat Atelier's mangaka) said. I wish I could just fuse with this movie, melt into the animation, become one.
